Inspired by the works of Russian Composer, Tchaikovsky, the Paolo Sebastian Autumn / Winter 2018-19 couture collection holds true to the label’s essence, that is, the creation of a grand narrative through meticulously crafted couture.
Drawing upon the composer’s masterpiece, The Nutcracker, the iconic score in the inspiration of the collection and it is brought to life through delicate embroidery that are as dreamlike as the tale itself.
“This season we’ve moved away slightly from our traditional soft look and focused on incorporating more structural and tailored pieces to compliment the powerful scores and hero the incredible craftsmanship we have in the Paolo Sebastian atelier,”
The textures in the collection are sublime and surprising. From the opulence of a woollen cashmere, to the more traditional french tulles and silk chiffons you’re used to seeing from the Adelaide designer. The tones include glacier blue, sugar plum, frost white and garnet.
The inspiration of winter and the setting of The Nutcracker is evident too in the collection, from hand-sewn snowflakes, floral motifs and delicate crystal embellishments. These all evoke a sense of enchantment and melodrama that are so synonymous with the composer’s work.
The narrative continues in the silhouettes of the pieces as well. The Paolo Sebastian signature illusion necklines features throughout the collection, but here the sweeping ball gown is contrasted with structured military inspired tailoring which mirrors the strength and bravery of the fearless heroine.
At just twenty-eight, Paul Vasileff has captured hearts around the nation with his whimsical designs and expert tailoring. He is a true perfectionist with a penchant for classic beauty. We simply can’t wait for what comes next…
