You asked and we delivered, here is another gorgeous real wedding for you! This one from Bec & Joel who got married in the beautiful town of Port Elliot in South Australia. We sat down with Bec to ask her a few questions about her big day and the styling influence behind it. Now as a heads up to prepare you before you see the stunning wedding – Bec is a graphic designer so the stationery, signage and all the details are absolutely on point! Take note ladies and gentlemen – this is a beautiful level of customisation to make your day extra special.
How Bec & Joel Met
Despite both growing up in country SA and sharing lots of mutual friends, it wasn’t until 2013 where Joel and I met at a friends house party. He had just been thrown into the pool by mates and was only wearing a Mexican-style poncho when we got introduced. Regardless of this, we hit it off! I remember bonding over our love for good music and cheese Doritos. I think it was his sense of humour and care-free nature that attracted me from the get go.
The Proposal
In true Joel style he caught me totally off guard on a quiet Saturday morning. He is quite the joker and for his proposal Joel created a silly little rap about us and all the things he loves about me. It was very funny and sweet and ended with ‘will you marry me’. He then planned a long lunch at Fino restaurant in Seppeltsfield.
The Wedding Planning
Our wedding was a year after our engagement which meant a very busy 12 months of planning. We both have large families, contributing to a 200+ guest list. Joel and I loved the idea of a destination wedding but because we wanted our all of our relatives, grandparents and friends there we knew we’d have to stay within the state. I’m so happy we found the beautiful Waverley Estate in Port Elliot which was also a perfect little getaway for all of our guests. Although our venue was stunning, it essentially was a blank canvas meaning we had to organise absolutely everything ourself. From catering, staff and alcohol, to the marquee, furniture, cutlery and glassware – it had to be hired. That added a lot of extra stress in the planning of our big day, however allowed us to have exactly what we wanted. We were lucky we had amazing suppliers that went above and beyond to help put together our big day!
On the Style Details & Inspiration
I’m a Graphic Designer so couldn’t help but be hands-on in the design and styling of our big day! I did a lot of research via Instagram and wedding blogs to gather inspiration from other real weddings that we loved. In terms of the setting and tone, we wanted it to be stylish and smart but not too over the top. We kept our colour palette to whites, greys, light wood and gold tones which was complemented by our venue. Waverley Estate also has the gorgeous swimming pool which acted as a main feature for our reception area. We had a large clear marquee set up next to the pool which lit up beautifully at night and created a really unique backdrop. When it came to my wedding dress, I had been following the amazing Sok from Malachi Couture for a long time and knew I wanted her to create my dream gown. She was so wonderful to deal with and knew exactly how to bring my vision to life! I opted for a non-white champagne coloured gown and teamed it with white bridesmaid dresses from Misha Collection. All of our colourings came together really well!
