It took me months of screenshotting my favourite bridal makeup looks to realise what they all had in common – sure they were all of beautiful glowing skin but there was something else… they were all done by Tobi Henney from The Bridal Makeup Co. She is the makeup mastermind behind so many of the stunning bridal editorials as well as celebrity red carpet looks.
The famous faces she has worked on include; Rachael Finch, Carissa Walford, Brooke Testoni, Tash Oakley and Margaret Zhang… We could keep this list going forever but we think you’re smart enough to get the point – if not we’ll spell it out for you, this woman is incredibly talented! I was lucky enough to be able to pick her brains about this seasons bridal beauty trends – something which she plays a large role in setting!
What do you love most about doing makeup?
I love creating unique looks for each of my clients. I’m very lucky as I work closely with many of the top brands and have access to the latest beauty products. It is always fun playing with new makeup products to create new looks. Travel and meeting other amazing creatives also top the list!
What trends are you noticing this year in bridal makeup?
I love how brides are looking at top celebrities and runway looks to create a more fashion forward makeup for their wedding day. Timeless is key. You want your look to be modern, not overbearing. Flawless skin not ‘caked on’ is so important.
What is your favourite bridal makeup look?
Glowing skin, beautiful highlights, soft romantic hues on lips and cheeks. A golden/bronze eye with definition, teamed with natural yet fluttering lashes to enhance the eyes.
What is the most common question brides ask about wedding day makeup?
Will the makeup last! YES! We are pros and our job is to make it perfect all day and night.
What are the most essential makeup items a bride should always have nearby?
Lipstick, powder or blot papers. Cotton tips.
What has been the most unusual request you’ve had from a client?
To do sheer makeup on father of the bride.
