This week I sat down with Simone and Teegan, the two incredible hair dressers and masterminds behind Hidden Halo Hair and Beauty, to get the inside scoop on what’s trending in bridal hair styles.
If you haven’t yet heard of the salon, I’ll let you off this time as it is new – but you really are missing out! Their salon has opened up in the beautiful precinct of High street, Armadale. Amongst all the gorgeous bridal shops here lies a fresh modern salon specialising in all things to do with hair and beauty. They have given me a perfect excuse to get a fresh blowdry when I’m down on High Street window shopping!
They have excelled in the hairdressing business for over 13 years, and with their combined experience gained in Melbourne, USA and London, they’re able to offer the best advice and techniques tailored to suit their clients hair type, taking in to consideration their clients hair health and keeping it at its best by using and recommending the best products possible to achieve amazing results. Their salon also caters for your beauty needs, offering bridal/special occasion make up, eyebrow shaping and tinting, lash extensions/tints/lifts and feather touch eyebrow tattooing.
What trends are you loving in bridal hair at the moment?
We are loving soft sultry, natural looks. It is so important for us that the bride feels beautiful on their special day, and what we are seeing more of is the “done, but undone” looks. Hollywood waves and loose hair ups with softness around the face is definitely on trend. Many brides are tending to wear their hair down with a beautiful glamour wave with a stunning hair accessory in one side of the hair, or the other option is a mid to low messy hair up with softness around the hairline. Hair accessories and veils are definitely still on trend, whether its a boho style wedding or a more polished elegant wedding.
What are the best tips for brides in the lead up to their big day?
The best tips for brides is to get regular in salon hair treatments- such as the olaplex 1 & 2 treatment at least once a month for 3 months leading up to their day. This can then be maintained at home weekly with the olaplex number 3 treatment.Try not to over dry or iron their hair so that the hair is in the best condition. Maintaining their hair with good quality salon shampoo and conditioner is really important – which means staying away from any products from the supermarket or chemist! If a bride has fine hair, we would also recommend that you talk to your stylist about potentially using some clip in hair extensions or padding for a hair up to give you more fullness and volume.
How far out from the wedding should the bride get her final cut and colour?
Brides should definitely get their final colour an cut done 1-2 weeks before the wedding. Freshly cut ends, a toner and treatment will give a beautiful gloss and shine and ensure that the hair is in optimum condition with no regrowth! A blow-dry one or two days before also is recommended as one- two day old hair is easier to work with and will actually help they style hold for longer.
What are the biggest don’ts for wedding day hair?
It’s important that the bride feels like “herself” on the day. Having a hair style or make up that you normally don’t wear or are not totally comfortable with, can make you feel “not like yourself” and have serious regrets post wedding. This is why having a trial is so important for both hair and make up, and if you are not totally convinced then ask your stylist to try different options until you are completely in love with the look. Search through Instagram or Pinterest for some great hair ideas! Always ensure that the hair style accentuates the features you want to show off, whether its your cheekbones, eyes, lips – or whatever it is that you love! The style also needs to compliment your face shape and bone structures so get your stylist to work with you on this.
What is the best way to prevent unphotogenic fly-aways?
The best way to to use the right products! I love the haze powder by evo which gives great hold, texture and volume, team this up with the evo miss malleable or builders paradise hairspray and it is a perfect combination. We tend to stay away from extra strong hold hair sprays only because they can give a really artificial super glue crunchy look!
What products should the bride keep handy on their big day in case of a hair emergency or for any touch ups?
If the hair is styled properly the bride shouldn’t really need any additional products with her for hair, but considering the weather, especially here in Melbourne, you never know what will happen! So a small can of builders paradise spray by evo would be sufficient, along with a few extra bobby pins and fringe pins to be on the safe side.
